Data management

The three components encompassing data management are ETL, Data quality and Data migration.

In computing, Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) refers to a process in database usage and especially in data warehousing that involves:

• Extracting data from outside sources
• Transforming it to fit operational needs (which can include quality levels)
• Loading it into the end target (database, more specifically, operational data store, data mart or data warehouse)

Data migration is the process of transferring data between storage types, formats, or computer systems

Data Quality refers to the processes and technologies involved in ensuring the conformance of data values to business requirements and acceptance criteria.

Combining the three components, data management can be referred to the process of moving data from various sources to various target systems, performing data transformations based on said guidelines and business rules and applying quality rules and measurements to ensure an effective and expedited delivery of business quality data, albeit it a small data mart or a large data warehouse.
